Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed digital communication through the emergence of deepfakes and synthetic media. Deepfakes are AI-generated or manipulated audio, video, and images that closely resemble real individuals and events, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish authentic content from fabricated material. This phenomenon poses significant challenges to brand trust, consumer confidence, corporate reputation, and digital marketing ethics. The present research paper analyses the impact of deepfakes and synthetic media on brand trust, identifies major threats and opportunities, and examines how organizations can protect their credibility in the digital age. The study adopts a qualitative and analytical research methodology based on secondary data collected from journals, reports, case studies, and online resources. The findings reveal that while synthetic media can improve personalized marketing and customer engagement, the misuse of deepfakes can damage consumer trust, spread misinformation, and create reputational crises for brands. The paper concludes that transparency, digital literacy, AI detection systems, and ethical regulations are essential for sustaining brand trust in the era of synthetic media.
